Guyana Rice Development Board. Annual Report 2007
The year 2007 can be described as one with mixed fortunes. During that year we have seen one of the highest exports since 1997. The year started with one of the largest crop, but due to the extended rainy season we have seen one of the smallest second crop in the last decade. These high exports were mainly due to the increased demand for rice globally and with large carryover stocks from the second crop in 2006 we were able to supply this demand. This trend is expected to continue in the coming years and with a highly proactive farming community we will be able to full fill this increase demand.
