Development assistance and economic development in the Caribbean: is there a correlation? Report no: 24164 - LAC. CGCED. Caribbean Country Management Unit. June 2002
This paper provides some preliminary evidence that there is a relation between development assistance and economic growth in the Caribbean region, with more development assistance leading to more economic growth. The largest development partner in the region for the past several years has been the Inter-American Development Bank, followed by the World Bank, the United States and the European Union. Overall, these four most important development partners account for over two-thirds of the total disbursements to these countries while development partner disbursements are distributed across a large number of sectors.
