A health promotion approach to reducing stigma and discrimination: a framework for action

This health promotion framework summarizes the best options to be applied in the fight against stigma and discrimination associated with HIV/AIDS in the Caribbean. It demonstrates how important the fight against stigma and discrimination is in the prevention and control of the epidemic. It outlines some key strategies in the area of reduction of stigma and discrimination in the health care setting and for application of a health promotion approach. Finally it recommends policy and legal changes necessary to minimize the occurrence of stigma and discrimination at community level, work place, and in health care settings.
