This Freedom of Information Act gives full effect to the provisions of the Antigua and Barbuda Constitution, conferring the right to receive and disseminate information, which is also guaranteed under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. This Act, part of an important trilogy of legislation, facilitates the right of the public to have access to information held by public authorities in order to further the public interest by promoting informed discussion of public affairs and greater accountability of public authorities.
