Policy Statement

Communities of Practice are groups of people bonded together entirely through technology. These communities do not convene physically - their interactions and learning begin, and are carried out entirely on the web.

The Community will consist of a Panel of persons with expertise in the various disciplines relevant to the specific Community of Practice.

Period:

Members of the Panel will be asked to sit for a period of one year (renewable on an annual basis).

Intended Publics:

Participation from as wide a cross-section of Caribbean society, including the diaspora will be encouraged.

Procedure:

  • All members of the Panel will be notified when a question is posted.
  • Any Panelist may respond to questions as he/she sees fit, although it is expected that the expert(s) of the core issue will respond.
  • If no response is received within 2 days, the system will send a follow-up reminder.

Role of the Moderator:

  • The moderator ensures that questions asked are on target. In this regard, it may be necessary for the Moderator to solicit additional information from the requestor if the question is not clear.
  • The moderator will also be responsible for ensuring that responses to questions are answered in a timely manner.  It is therefore expected that answers to queries will occur within 24 hours. As a result, if there is no response within four (4) days, the Moderator will deliver a non-expert general response and further solicit input from the Specialist(s).
  • Finally, the moderator may also initiate a discussion by posting a question for comments by the Panelists.

Role of the Caribbean Knowledge Management Centre (CKMC):

  • CKMC will be responsible for filtering queries to screen for political sensitivities.
  • CKMC will provide background follow-up and other supporting research material.
