Minister of Finance, Winston Dookeran feels confident that boosting agricultural output
is a central plank in the efforts of the Government to improve employment, keep inflation low and stable, and grow the economy.

Mr Dookeran explained that in 2012 the Government initiated the Agricultural Incentive Programme aimed at assisting local farmers in overcoming the major challenges faced in the
sector. The Programme provides support to farmers in the form of percentage rebates on the cost associated with the purchase of irrigation equipment, land preparation, pest management, and post-harvest marketing. There are also incentives to encourage youth in agriculture, for fisheries, the provision of security in the agricultural sector, and for agro-processing........
